Apple Today 2/21/2017 (AAPL)

Good Morning,
Welcome back. S&P Futures are up 4 with +3 Fair Value, NASDAQ Futures are up 9 with +9 Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 59 as we begin the last full week of February as a full earnings report includes Walmart (WMT), Macy's (M) and Home Depot (HD) this morning. The Fed is expected to speak today at noon, giving some insight into expectations for the US economy and interest rates.
This morning's light Economic Calendar includes: PMI Manufacturing Index Flash followed by Fed's Harker: Economic Outlook and Results of $26B, 2-Year Note Auction this afternoon.
The earnings winners are: Walmart (WMT), up nearly 3.5%. Macy's (M), up nearly 3% and Home Depot (HD), up nearly 2%. On the other hand, HSBC Holdings plc (HSBC) is down nearly 6%.
Futures were up in early morning, peaked at 7am and are off the highs as we approach the open.
Asian markets ended mixed. China went up 0.41%, Hong Kong dropped 0.76% and Japan gained 0.68%. European markets are mostly up. The UK is down 0.29%, Germany is up 0.56% and France is up 0.33%.
Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is up 1.76%, natural gas is down 3.21% and gold is down 0.69%. Unleaded gas is up 0.60% and heating oil is up 1.83%. Metals are down except copper. Meats are up. Coffee, cotton, corn and soybeans are up while cocoa and wheat are down.
Market hits record highs on strong retail results. Oil rises as OPEC aims for deeper output cuts.
Walmart (WMT) reported Q4 results this morning that beat expectations and is up nearly 3.5% in pre-market. Macy's (M) announced Q4 results and is up nearly 3% on mixed results. Home Depot (HD) reported Q4 results that beat estimates and is up nearly 2%. HSBC Holdings plc (HSBC) reported a Q4 loss that missed expectations and is down nearly 6%.
This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from La-Z-Boy Incorporated (LZB), Morningstar, Inc. (MORN), Texas Roadhouse, Inc. (TXRH), Copart, Inc. (CPRT), Extra Space Storage, Inc. (EXR) and First Solar, Inc. (FSLR).
Tomorrow morning before the open, Garmin Ltd. (GRMN), DISH Network Corporation (DISH), Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (SIX), Invesco Mortgage Capital Inc. (IVR), Lamar Advertising Company (LAMR), Toll Brothers Inc. (TOL), Papa John's International, Inc. (PZZA), Mobileye (MBLY) and TJX Companies Inc. (TJX) are expected to report.
A leading bullish FSLR swing trade strategy is: When the 16 SMA is Above the 27 EMA AND the 31 Day Smoothed Stochastics is Bullish, daily bars.
AAPL had a strong week, ending up 2.72% on low volume. On Monday, AAPL took off like a rocket towards 134, ending up 89% on low volume. On Valentine's Day, AAPL had a sweet move to 135, ending up 1.29% on a bit higher than average volume. On Wednesday, AAPL branched upwards to set new highs above 136 among dark clouds looming overhead, ending up 0.36% on higher than average volume. On Thursday, AAPL skipped along the 135-line, ending down 0.13% on low volume.
On Friday, AAPL ended up 0.28% on low volume for OPEX. AAPL opened at 135.10 to high volume and immediately set an intra-day low of 135.10 before pushing up towards the upper-135 area shortly after 10am on moderate volume and then quickly slipping towards the lows again an hour later on low volume. AAPL subsequently bounced back ahead of lunchtime on low volume and held onto the mid-135 area through the afternoon on low volume. After 3pm, AAPL dipped below 135.5 on low volume only to rebound sharply into the close on relatively strong volume. AAPL ended the day up 38 cents at 135.72 and dropped 2 cents in after-hours to 135.70.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened higher in conjunction with Futures and set sights on the mid-136 zone amid a price target hike to 154 by Morgan Stanley. AAPL is currently up 74 cents at 136.46 as we approach the open.
