S&P Futures are up 4 with +4 Fair Value, NASDAQ Futures are up 10 with +10 Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 33 on this action-packed Wednesday. Earnings season heats up with Citigroup (C), Goldman Sachs (GS) and TD Ameritrade (AMTD) releasing earnings before the open. Janet Yellen is scheduled to speak in California on Wednesday at 3pm.
This morning's economic calendar includes MBA Mortgage Applications, Consumer Price Index, Redbook Chain Store Sales, Industrial Production, NAHB Housing Market Index, Fed's Kashkari speech followed this afternoon by Fed's Beige Book, Janet Yellen speech and Treasury International Capital.
As for earnings: CSX Corporation (CSX) is down nearly 3.5% and Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (IBKR) is also down nearly 3.5%. On the other hand, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) is up over 0.5%.
Futures were higher in early morning and peaked just before 1am, then dipped to lows around 7am, bouncing back sharply shortly after and are near the highs as we approach the open.
Asian markets ended up. China went up 0.14%, Japan gained 0.43% and Hong Kong led the advance, up 1.13%. European markets are mixed. The UK is up 0.34%, Germany is up 0.22% and France is down 0.31%.
Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is down 1.51%, natural gas is down 2.55% and gold is down 0.12%. Unleaded gas is down 1.52% and heating oil is down 1.03%. Metals are down except silver. Meats are up. Cocoa, cotton and wheat are up while coffee, corn and soybeans are down.
US consumer prices rise for 5th month on shelter, gas. US industrial output rises 0.8 percent as utilities surge. IMF's Christine Lagarde says "middle classes in crisis" at Davos 2017.
CSX Corporation (CSX) reported Q4 results yesterday afternoon with a 2% decline in profit and is down nearly 3.5% in pre-market. Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (IBKR) announced Q4 adjusted earnings of $193 million with earnings of 7 cents per share and is down nearly 3.5%.
Citigroup Inc. (C) reported Q4 results this morning with mixed results and is down nearly 0.5% in pre-market. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) announced Q4 results that beat estimates and is up over 0.5%. U.S. Bancorp (USB) is up slightly after reporting Q4 results with earnings of 82 cents per share that beat expectations.
This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) and Kinder Morgan, Inc. (KMI).
Tomorrow morning before the open, The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (BK), KeyCorp (KEY) and Union Pacific Corporation (UNP) are expected to report.

AAPL showed a mountain of strength yesterday, ending up 0.81% on higher than average volume. AAPL opened at 118.22 to very high volume and immediately set an intra-day low of 118.22 on high volume before surging sharply to the upper-119 area on high volume. AAPL continued up and set an intra-day high of 120.24 at 11:42am on strong volume before retreating back to the upper-119 area in early afternoon on low volume. AAPL remained in this narrow range on low volume for the remainder of the afternoon with a brief shallow dip towards the mid-119 zone near 2:30 before bouncing back and running up again into the close on moderate volume. AAPL ended the day up 96 cents at 120 and dropped 4 cents in after-hours to 119.96.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened higher in conjunction with Futures and fluttered around the 120-line, setting a pre-market high of 120.23 at 5:54am. AAPL is currently up 10 cents at 120.07 as we approach the open.
