Apple Today 11/08/2016 VOTE (AAPL)
seymour_greenz November 8th 2016 10:34:25 AMGood Morning,
Welcome to Election Day 2016. NASDAQ Futures are down 7 with flat Fair Value, S&P Futures are down 4 with -2 Fair Value and Dow Futures are down 17 on this most momentous and pivotal day of Election Tuesday 2016 after the strongest bounce in 9 weeks yesterday following 9 straight down sessions - which is notably the longest streak since December 1, 1990. The economic calendar has a few more data points, such as Small Business Optimism and Redbook Chain Store Sales among others this morning, but let's face it - the entire world is perched on the edge of their collective seats awaiting the 2016 US election results tonight. The earnings calendar delivered us a winner with The Priceline Group Inc. (PCLN), up nearly 4.5%, and a trio of stinkers, CVS Health Corporation (CVS), down over 16%, Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. (VRX), down over 27% and Wayfair (W), down nearly 14%. Hopefully, upcoming earners Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (JAZZ) and TripAdvisor Inc. (TRIP) will step up to the task this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Futures were flat in early morning and touched green just before 4am only to dip to lows later inthe morning and are near the lows as we approach the open.
Asian markets ended mixed. China went up 0.46%, Hong Kong went down 0.11% and Japan dropped 1.46%. European markets are near flat. The UK is down 0.01%, Germany is down 0.12% and France is down 0.08%.
Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is down 0.38%, natural gas is down 4.33% and gold is up 0.17%. Unleaded gas is down 0.28% and heating oil is down 0.26%. Metals are up. Meats are mixed. Cocoa, cotton, corn, wheat and soybeans are up while coffee is down.
US election fever keeps stocks, dollar subdued. Oil prices could prove election-sensitive.
The Priceline Group Inc. (PCLN) reported Q3 earnings yesterday afternoon with revenue up 22%, beating expectations and is up nearly 4.5% in pre-market. Cray Inc (CRAY) announced an adjusted Q3 loss of 49 cents per share and is down over 13.5%.
CVS Health Corporation (CVS) announced Q3 results with a guidance cut and is down over 16%. Wayfair (W) reported an adjusted Q3 loss of 54 cents per share and is down over 13%. Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. (VRX) reported Q3 results with a loss and guidance cut that missed expectations and is down over 27%.
This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from Prospect Capital Corporation (PSEC), Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (JAZZ), Cumulus Media Inc. (CMLS) and Liquidmetal Technologies, Inc. (LQMT).
Tomorrow morning before the open, Viacom Inc. (VIAB), TripAdvisor Inc. (TRIP), USA Technologies, Inc. (USAT), DISH Network Corporation (DISH), Tribune Media Company (TRCO), Crocs, Inc. (CROX), Kite Pharma (KITE), Materialise NV (MTLS), Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (INO), Santander Consumer USA Holdings Inc (SC), Kandi Technologies Group, Inc. (KNDI) and The Wendy's Company (WEN) are expected to report.
A leading bullish CVS swing trade strategy is: When the 20 Simple MA is Below the 57 DEMA AND 28 day Stochastics is Bearish, daily bars.
AAPL looped around 110 yesterday, ending up 1.44% on slightly lower than average volume. AAPL opened up at 110 to high volume and initially spiked towards mid-110 on high volume before dipping to an intra-day low of 109.46 at 10:04am on moderate volume before bouncing back to 110. AAPL hugged 110 in a narrow range on low volume until 1pm and then pushed up into the mid-110 zone followed by a momentary sharp dip back under 110 on mild volume and then an equally sharp bounce back to mid-110 on stronger volume into the close. AAPL ended the day up 1.57 at 110.41 and dropped 7 cents in after-hours to 110.34.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened lower and dipped below 110, scraping a pre-market low of 109.89 at 5:31am and bouncing back up above 110 to a pre-market high of 110.40 later at 8:35am before settling back towards 110. AAPL is currently down 33 cents at 110.08 as we approach the open.
