NASDAQ Futures are down 9 with -7 Fair Value, S&P Futures are down 4 with -2 Fair Value and Dow Futures are down 31 on a feverish earnings day complete with jobs reports and PMI later this morning. Futures were lower in early morning and took a dip after 3am, hitting a bottom at 3:44am and bouncing slightly but are still down as we await the open.
Asian markets ended mostly down. China gained 0.24%, Hong Kong dropped 1.68% and Japan fell 1.88%. European markets are down. The UK is down 0.23%, Germany is down 0.15% and France is leading the decline, down 0.55%.
Commodities are mostly up this morning. Oil is up 0.84%, natural gas is up 0.55% and gold is down 0.01%. Unleaded gas is down 0.23% and heating oil is up 1.08%. Metals are down. Meat is mostly up. Cocoa, coffee, cotton, corn, wheat and soybeans are all up.
Markets set to open lower as weak oil weighs. US private sector adds 179,000 jobs in July, according to ADP. Oil edges up to $42 after slide, but glut still weighs.
Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) announced Q2 earnings yesterday afternoon that beat expectations but weaker outlook and is down over 1% in pre-market. Etsy, Inc. (ETSY) reported Q2 earnings that beat expectations, raised guidance and is up over 4.5%. Fitbit, Inc. (FIT) announced Q2 earnings that topped expectations and is up over 7%. Potbelly Corporation (PBPB) reported Q2 earnings that beat expectations and is down over 1.5%. Glu Mobile Inc. (GLUU) announced a Q2 earnings loss that beat expectations but downbeat outlook and is down nearly 7.5%. Zendesk, Inc. (ZEN) reported a Q2 loss that topped expectations and is down over 4%. Cray Inc (CRAY) announced a Q2 earnings loss of 33 cents per share and is down nearly 19.5%. Devon Energy Corporation (DVN) is down nearly 0.5% despite Q2 beat. LifeLock, Inc. (LOCK) is up slightly after reporting a Q2 loss but beat expectations. American International Group Inc (AIG) posted a Q2 profit that surpassed expectations and is up nearly 5%. Avis Budget Group, Inc. (CAR) is up over 2% after missing Q2 forecasts.
3D Systems Corp. (DDD) reported Q2 earnings this morning with a loss that beat expectations and is up over 3% in pre-market. Time Warner Inc. (TWX) announced a profitable Q2 that topped expectations and a stake in Hulu and is up nearly 3%. Kate Spade & Company (KATE) reported Q2 earnings that missed expectations and is down nearly 17%. Office Depot Inc. (ODP) announced earnings with a drop in sales and closing another 300 stores and is up nearly 4%. Crocs, Inc. (CROX) reported Q2 earnings that missed estimates and is down nearly 17%. HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBC) is up nearly 4.5% after announcing weak earnings but adds $2.5 billion buyback and lifts dividend. The Clorox Company (CLX) is up slightly after reporting mixed Q4 earnings.
This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (FOXA), The Western Union Company (WU), HubSpot, Inc. (HUBS), j2 Global, Inc. (JCOM), Tesla Motors (TSLA), Chimera Investment Corporation (CIM), Denny's Corporation (DENN), Jack In The Box Inc. (JACK), Novatel Wireless Inc. (MIFI), First Solar, Inc. AAPL bobbed down yesterday, dipping 1.48% on lower than average volume. AAPL opened down at 105.60 to high volume and fairly quickly popped up to set a high of 106.07 within minutes before bobbing all the way down through the morning and lunch to bottom at 104.00 at 1:14pm on moderately light volume, then bouncing up into the mid-104 area an hour later and getting some traction toward the upper-104 are after 2pm. AAPL gravitated back towards mid-104 towards the close and ended the day down 1.57 at 104.48 and lost 4 more cents in after-hours to 104.44.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened lower, picking up with yesterday's after-hours and in conjunction with Futures but has picked up some steam since 6am and is testing the upper-104 area as the morning progresses. AAPL is currently up 26 cents at 104.74 as we approach the open.
