Apple Today - 4/22/2016 OPEX (AAPL)
seymour_greenz April 22nd 2016 02:10:49 PMGood Morning,
NASDAQ Futures are down 7 with -42 Fair Value (I've never seen anything like this before), S&P Futures are up 1 with -1 Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 8 as we digest a huge amount of earnings reports on this relatively economically calm OPEX Friday. Futures have been bouncing around from flat in early morning to up to down at 5am and then back up again and are still up slightly (except NASDAQ).
Asian markets closed mixed today. China went up 0.22%, Hong Kong dropped 0.72% and Japan gained 1.2%. European markets are down today. The UK is currently down 1.08%, Germany is down 0.36% and France is down 0.39%.
Commodities are mostly up this morning. Oil is up 0.56%, natural gas is down 0.97% and gold is down 0.13%. Unleaded gas is up 0.18% and heating oil is up 0.83%. Metals are mixed. Meat is mixed. Cocoa is up while coffee, cotton, corn, wheat and soybeans are down.
Oil heads for third week of gains as sentiment turns upbeat. Yen sinks on potential for Bank of Japan stimulus expansion.
Alphabet Inc. (GOOG) reported a Q1 earnings miss yesterday due to strong dollar and ad spending and is currently down nearly 5%. Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) announced Q3 earnings indicating a weak PC market and is down over 5%. Starbucks Corporation (SBUX) also reported Q2 earnings and is down over 3.5% on falling comparable store sales. Visa Inc. (V) is down 3.5% after announcing Q2 results and cutting forecast. On the other hand, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) announced Q1 earnings with a loss but is up over 29% on a Chinese licensing deal.
American Airlines Group (AAL) reported Q1 earnings beating estimates with lower fuel prices and is up nearly 0.5%. However, Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) announced Q1 earnings profit meeting expectations but falling sales and is down over 2%. General Electric Company (GE) reported Q1 earnings with a dip in profit but sees more industrial revenue is down over 0.5%. Honeywell International, Inc. (HON) is down under 0.5% after reporting Q1 earnings that exceeded expectations. On the other hand, McDonald's Corporation (MCD) announced Q1 earnings beating expectations amid all-day breakfast and is up 2%.
On Monday morning before the bell, look for earnings from Xerox Corporation (XRX).
AAPL sure had a gloomy cloud cast over it yesterday, dropping 1.08% on fairly strong volume. AAPL appeared to show some potential in pre-market, opened at 106.90 and immediately set the intra-day high of 106.93 on high volume before quickly tanking to mid-105 on relatively high volume. AAPL then bounced up to mid-106 on moderate volume, peaking at 10:54am on moderate volume before dipping back to the intra-day low of 105.52 on moderately light volume at 1:18pm. AAPL fought back to the 106-area later in the afternoon and closed the day down 1.16 at 105.97. AAPL dropped sharply in after-hours as Alphabet (Google) reported a miss and dipped as low as 104.92, ending after-hours even further down by 72 cents at 105.2.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened lower at 105 in sympathy with Alphabet and although AAPL saw some lift to the lower-105 area it has struggled to regain the mid-105 area. AAPL is currently down 70 cents at 105.27 as we approach the open.
Classic max-pain is 107. Today is OPEX. Have a good weekend with your friends and family.
