Apple Today - 2/08/2016 (AAPL)
seymour_greenz February 8th 2016 10:55:45 AMGood Morning,
Sadly, NASDAQ Futures are down 92 with -88 Fair Value, S&P Futures are down 28 with -27 Fair Value and Dow Futures are down 227 on this brutal Monday kicking off a busy economic week, complete with Yellen speaking, quite possibly on rates, on Wednesday and Thursday. Futures were solid green in early morning and "dropped off a cliff" at 3am, continuing Friday's punishing selloff.
Asian markets closed up today, though China and Hong Kong are closed for the Chinese New Year. Japan gained 1.10%. European markets are down sharply today. The UK is currently down 1.90%, Germany is down 2.70% and France is leading the decline, down 3.04%.
Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is down 3.37%, natural gas is up 4.12% and gold is up 1.93%. Unleaded gas is down 3.02% and heating oil is down 0.73%. Metals are up except copper. Meat is mostly down. Cotton and cocoa are up while coffee, corn, wheat and soybeans are down.
US stocks open lower, oil prices slide on supply, energy sector s(t)inks.
Toy manufacturer Hasbro, Inc. (HAS) is up slightly after reporting an earnings beat and a dividend raise this morning among chatter of a merger with rival Mattel (MAT). On the other hand, Loews Corporation (L) is down over 4% on lower net income, though the stock is bouncing from being down nearly twice as much earlier.
This afternoon after the bell, look out for Delta Apparel, Inc (DLA), Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (FOXA), GigOptix, Inc. (GIG) and Yelp (YELP).
Tomorrow before the bell, CDW Corporation (CDW), CVS Health Corporation (CVS), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (GT), Ingersoll-Rand plc (IR), The Coca-Cola Company (KO), Omnicom Group Inc. (OMC), WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (WCG) and Wyndham Worldwide Corporation (WYN) are expected to report.
Aside from the 0.52 dividend event, AAPL had rather uneventful week until getting hit particularly hard on Friday and ending the week down 3.41%, with the lion's share of the drop, 2.67%, occurring on Friday. AAPL started the week around 96, dipped to 94 on Tuesday and Wednesday, recovering well Wednesday afternoon before ex-div. On ex-div Thursday, AAPL surprised by breaking 97 and held pretty well with a mid-96 area close. Friday opened to 96.51 on moderate volume, saw a brief spike to the intra-day high of 96.92 then a treacherous drop that dragged out all day and tested 93 with a low of 93.69 on high volume within minutes of the close. AAPL ended the day down 2.58 to 94.02. AAPL dropped an additional 7 cents in after-hours to end at 93.95.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened up slightly lower at 93.81 on low volume and then dipped lower in conjunction with souring Futures, hitting a low of 92.05 at 7:24am on relatively high volume. AAPL has since bounced back towards 93 and is currently down 1.02 at 93 as we approach the open.
Classic max-pain is 92.
