Apple Today - 2/02/2016 (AAPL)

Into the fire again... NASDAQ Futures are down 38 with -24 Fair Value, S&P Futures are down 17 with -18 Fair Value and Dow Futures are down 138 as Google usurps Apple's crown but fails to inspire a rally in the overall market. Futures were down in early morning and took an additional beating at 3:30am, reaching a low at 4am and bouncing back slightly into the open.
Asian markets closed mixed today. China ended up strong, gaining 2.26%, however Hong Kong dropped 0.76% and Japan lost 0.64%. European markets are selling off pretty significantly today. The UK is currently down 2.03%, Germany is down 1.32% and France is down 1.9%.
Commodities are mostly down this morning. Oil is down 2.94%, natural gas is down 3.95% and gold is down 0.1%. Unleaded gas is down 5.26% and heating oil is down 3.30%. Metals are mostly down with only copper up. Meat is up. Cocoa, coffee, corn and wheat are down while soybeans and cotton are up.
Google's Alphabet steals the Alpha-dog spot from Apple. Oil slides more than 5% as hopes for output cut fade.
Alphabet Inc (GOOG) reported impressive earnings yesterday and is currently up over 5%, or nearly 40 points, in pre-market, surpassing Apple's long held #1 market cap crown. Mattel, Inc. (MAT) is also up nearly 7% on a 17% Q4 profit gain. On the other hand, Rent-A-Center Inc. (RCII) is down nearly 17% after announcing earnings yesterday.
BP p.l.c. (BP) looks to open down 9% after reporting their biggest ever annual loss this morning. Exxon Mobil Corporation (XOM) also reported earnings this morning and is currently down 2% in pre-market. Pfizer Inc. (PFE) also reported their Q4 this morning and is down over 1% on a 4% earnings decline. On the greener side of the fence, United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) announced earnings this morning and is up over 2.5% on a strong profit report and outlook.
This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (CMG), Edwards Lifesciences Corp (EW), Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD) and Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO).
Tomorrow before the bell, Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP), Avery Dennison Corporation (AVY), CBOE Holdings (CBOE), Comcast Corporation (CMCSA), General Motors Company (GM), HTC Corporation (HTCKF), International Paper Co. (IP) and Merck & Co Inc. (MRK) are expected to report.
AAPL opened down from Friday's close, floundered around 96 for most of the day and ending down 0.93%. AAPL opened at 96.46 to high volume and hit a low of 95.40 an hour later on high volume. AAPL bounced back into the mid-96 area on moderate volume and dipped below 96 again just after lunchtime on lower volume. Shortly after, AAPL recovered 96 again and slowly gained back another 50 cents or so in late afternoon trading, peaking at 96.71 at 3:26pm on moderate volume followed by a small dip below 96.5 in the last minutes into the close on lower volume. AAPL closed the day at 96.43, down 91 cents. AAPL lost an additional 18 cents in after-hours to end at 96.25.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened below 96 in conjunction with Futures and quickly drifted toward 95.5 where AAPL spent the remainder of pre-market in narrowing range. AAPL is currently down 78 cents at 95.65 as we approach the open.
