Apple Today - 1/06/2016 (AAPL)
seymour_greenz January 6th 2016 10:05:00 AMGood Morning,
A Monday double take? NASDAQ Futures are down 93 with -84 Fair Value, Dow Futures are down 298 on the first Wednesday of 2016, packed with a full economic calendar. Futures have been "worsening" all morning as we approach the open.
Asian markets closed mixed. China gained 2.25% while Hong Kong and Japan dropped just under 1%. European markets are deep in the red today with the UK currently down 1.83%, Germany slipping 1.85% and France down the most with a 1.96% loss.
Commodities are mostly down this morning. Oil is currently down 3.45%, natural gas is down 0.69% and gold is up 0.76%. Unleaded gas is down 4.54%, heating oil is down 3.04% and the rest of energy is down. Except gold metals are down. Cocoa, corn, soybeans and wheat are down. Meat is flat. Coffee and cotton are up.
Oil slides to a new 11-year low and private-sector hiring accelerated in December to 257,000, according to ADP.
Restaurant chain Sonic (SONC) initially rallied approximately 6% after announcing earnings yesterday afternoon but quickly sold off and is currently down nearly 6% in pre-market trading this morning, of course the broader market isn't helping. Agricultural and herbicide manufacturer Monsanto Company (MON) reported this morning and is currently down under 1% after reporting a narrower than expected loss.
AAPL had a fairly optimistic open yesterday but that's where it ended as AAPL sunk under water 2.51% by the end of intra-day trading. Peaking at 105.85 on high volume within moments of the open, AAPL began a relatively high volume slide that lasted all-day. The first stop to 104 by 10am appeared it may hold after a bounce approaching 105, but at noon a huge volume drop nearly instantly brought AAPL below 103 and as low as mid-102 before another bounce attempt. Reaching the upper-103 area around 2pm on moderate volume AAPL was unable to regain 104 and slipped back towards the lows of the day on moderately high volume. AAPL closed the intra-day session down 2.64 at 102.71. After-hours further punished AAPL with a drop of 46 cents to 102.25.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened lower at 101.29 on high volume in conjunction with Futures and drifted down towards 100 through the morning as Futures worsened. Hitting a low of 99.66 at 5:36am, AAPL has managed to generally keep above 100 for most of pre-market and has made some ground into the mid-100 area as we approach the open. AAPL is currently down 2.29 at 100.42.
Classic max-pain is 105.
